The original Pettingell Machine Company of Amesbury, Mass. offered the No. 2M Heavy as their most advanced, capable, and durable automatic power hammer. This model featured a heavier frame than the standard 2M, an extended throat depth of 40 inches, and Timken tapered roller bearings. 

As the new Pettingell Machine Company, it only seems logical to revive our predecessor's most sought after machine. An extremely rare, new old stock hammer was acquired, along with a complete set of original blueprints. Every aspect of this original No. 2M Heavy was untouched; from the original paint color, right down to all visible machining tool marks, we were able to inspect every detail of its manufacture. Each individual part of this hammer was carefully dismantled and reverse engineered using today's 3D scanning technology. We cross-referenced the scan data with our archive of original blueprints. With this abundance of technical information, we are confident that we're remanufacturing the machine to the originally specified standards.

We are working closely with a third generation Detroit patternmaking firm, combining CNC machining capabilities with their traditional approach. Their close connection with a local foundry streamlined the process of making these high quality castings a reality. For this application, the strength, vibration dampening, lubricity, and wear properties of cast iron are characteristics unmatched by other materials. Every component is machined within the Greater Detroit Area, using machinery that spans the entire Machine Age. From start to finish, Pettingell Machine Company power hammers are manufactured in the U.S.A.
